Bespoke Tailors

gieves

The following tailors are listed in order of price, starting with the most expensive:

NORTON & SONS. One of the oldest houses on Savile Row, with a list of Royal warrants as long as the stitching on its armholes, Norton & Sons combines centuries-old tradition with a few acceptable contemporary touches. Nortonandsons.co.uk

JASPER LITTMAN. Bespoke and semi bespoke suits measured, fitted and delivered by visiting tailors to a convenient location in the South East. The average price for semi-besoke is £699-£799. A semi-bespoke suit is not entirely hand-made and there is no baste-stage, but far more work goes into them than made-to-measure. Jasperlittman.co.uk

PETER SMITHARD. Situated in what was once the heartland of English tailoring, Mr Smithard belongs to that rare breed - a tailor and cutter who makes the entire suit for you. He will retire within the year, so this could be your last chance to go fully bespoke for only £250-£700. Refreshingly there is no web site, so telephone 0113 243 3880 for an appointment

BOOKSTER. While not a bespoke service, Bookster offers what they call a made-to-order service, whereby you take your own measurements, fill in a detailed form which includes choices of cloth, cut and lining, then they post you a jacket to see how it fits. Further changes can then be made to the final cut, and the whole process takes around six weeks with a price tag in the region of £450 for a 3-piece tweed suit. Tweed-jacket.com

A SUIT THAT FITS. Despite the terrible name, this company offers bespoke tailoring at bargain prices, by taking your measurements in the UK then farming out the actual tailoring to Nepal. At around £250 for a two-piece suit, don't expect Savile Row quality, but you will still get an individually tailored garment in exactly the cloth you want, so it is still a better option than purchasing off-the-peg.
